Tigran Vartanovich Petrosian (June 17, 1929, Tbilisi – 13 August 1984, Moscow), Soviet chess International Grandmaster (1952), world champion (1963-1969), Honored Master of Sports (1960), Ph.D. in Philosophy.

Chess started in 1942. His first teacher from the Palace of Pioneers drew attention to the surprisingly logical game boy: he had not sought to victims of shapes and combinations, that so typical of young players. In 1962 Petrosian has made a brilliant success in the tournament contenders on the island of Cura?ao, ahead of Tal, R. Fisher, P. Keres, E. Geller, V. Korchnoi, P. Benko, M. Philip. In 1963 he won the world championship match with Botvinnik with a score 12,5:9,5. In the next match with Boris Spassky in 1966 for the second time won the world title (12,5:11,5). In 1969 Petrosian met again in the match for the world championship from Spassky, but lost it with a score 10,5:12,5.

In the years 1968-1977 Petrosyan was the chief editor of “Chess Moscow, then the weekly” 64 “; transfer knowledge and experience of young players in the school chess club” Spartak “(now bears his name), engaged in scientific work.
