Mikhail Moiseevich Botvinnik (1911, Kuokkala now Repino Leningrad region – 1995, Moscow), world chess champion (1948-1957, 1958-1960, 1961-1963), Doctor of Technical Sciences (1951). First successes.
He learned to play chess at 12 years and two years later had the first level. The victory over world champion Capablanca in a simultaneous game (1925, Leningrad) brought him first fame and gave confidence.
